Volunteer Opportunities for Teens

St. Luke’s Junior Volunteer Program is designed to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for students ages 14-18. Junior Volunteers are dedicated young men and women give their time to help St. Luke's provide the highest quality of care by assisting patients, visitors and staff in a variety of ways, bringing a smile and adding special energy to everything they do.

Junior volunteers work a minimum of 8 hours per month during the school year and a minimum of 12 hours per month during June, July and August.

Opportunities for Junior Volunteers include:

Dismissal: Assist with wheelchair dismissal of most patients as well as deliver flowers, cards, and mail. Monday-Friday, 5 pm to 7 pm, Saturdays 9 am to 5 pm or 10 am to 2 pm. (Extended shifts in summer)

Gift Shop: Assist in the Auxiliary Gift Shop. Only Junior Volunteers who have shown responsibility and dependability in other services first and who have volunteered a minimum of 50 hours may work this service. Saturdays, 9 am to 5 pm. (Extended shifts in summer)

Office: Juniors perform a variety of activities to assist the daily operations of the Volunteer Office including answering phones, typing, and other special projects. Monday-Friday, 5 pm to 7 pm, Saturdays 9 am to 1 pm, or 1 pm to 5 pm. (Extended shifts in summer)

Pediatrics: Experienced Juniors provide assistance by playing with patients and siblings on our Pediatrics (Children's) Unit, and assist staff in other ways, as needed. Requires a minimum of 50 hours of service and a demonstrated ability to be completely reliable and responsible. Monday-Friday, 5 pm to 8 pm, Saturdays 10 am to noon, 2 pm to 4 pm. (Extended shifts in summer)

Reception Desk: Experienced Juniors greet visitors in the lobby, help give directions, and use a computer to provide patient information. Monday-Friday, 5 pm to 7 pm, Saturdays 9 am to 1 pm, 1 pm to 5 pm. (Extended shifts in summer)

Flower Delivery: Juniors deliver flowers, mail, and cards to patients. Monday-Friday 5:00-7:00 p.m., Saturdays 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. (Extended shifts in summer).

ER Reception: Juniors with over 100 hours staff the Emergency Room reception desk. Duties include giving directions, assisting waiting families, taking patients to triage and treatment rooms. Various shifts available.

How To Become a Junior or Summer Volunteer:

To be considered for membership in the Junior or Summer Volunteer Programs, you MUST:

  • be at least 14 years old at time of application
  • have a minimum 2.5 grade point average (GPA)
  • show verification of two MMR shots since birth
  • show verification of a negative TB test (proof to be included with application materials)
  • be neat and well-groomed
  • be trustworthy, dependable, honest, courteous, pleasant and punctual
  • have a professional attitude and behavior
