The St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation Board of Directors and the Harvey Gray Family awarded the 2008 Carl A. Gray Memorial Award to Cherie Shardlow, RN. Cherie was recognized in the areas of structural empowerment, transformational leadership, and exemplary professional practice.

Cherie works as a nurse in the Post-anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Nursing colleagues recognized her as a role model who provides outstanding patient care.

Each year the entire hospital staff nominates a nurse who exemplifies excellence in his or her nursing practice. The nursing staff then votes on the colleague whom they believe is most deserving of the recognition.

Nominated along with Cherie were Laurie Benson, Angela Brady, and Gordon Wait, all of the Emergency Department; Kristine Brock and Hollie Roberts of the Medical/Surgical Unit; Mary Ann Crowdson and Cathie Royston of the PACU; Trina Brown, Operating Room; Cheryl Kalenik, Clinics; Suzanne Miller, Clinical Education; and Barbara Wilkinson, Medical Imaging.

The Gray Family established the award in 1995 in honor of the late Carl A. Gray, an avid Sun Valley Ski Club member. Harvey (Carl’s son) and Marge Gray of Connecticut and their family visit Sun Valley each year to present the award, and of course, to ski.
