Endowment Gifts Endowed funds held by the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation provide both current and long-term support for capital equipment, programs, and services. The principal of each endowed fund is invested in accordance with the foundation’s investment policy and only annual earnings are spent in consultation with each fund’s donors, and at the discretion of the board of directors. We are grateful to the following visionary individuals and foundations for establishing endowed funds in the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation.
Endowed Funds of $1,000,000 or More Emergency Services Endowment Fund The first gift to this fund was a $1 million donation from Julia and George Argyros in order to help maintain a level of emergency services at St. Luke’s Wood River that is unusual for a community of our size. Earnings from the fund will support the hospital’s ability to continue staffing its Emergency Department exclusively with board certified, specially trained emergency medicine physicians. When the $10 million endowment is fully funded, earnings will cover the nearly $650,000 required each year to sustain this level of excellence. Endowed Funds of $500,000 or More The P. Scott McLean Endowment Fund for Staff Education Created in 2005 by the Boswell Family Foundation, this fund helps our staff develop and maintain expertise in effective use of technologies, and provides education on best practices in patient care. P. Scott McLean Jr., MD assists with advising this fund. In 2008, fund earnings helped two of our nurses receive training to become certified in critical care. Engl Family Endowment Fund This fund, which was created in 1973 by the Peggy Emery Engl Descendants’ Trust, represents the first endowed fund held by the foundation. Annual distributions, which are made in consultation with members of the Engl Family, support the hospital’s priority needs. Earnings from this endowment have supported the Women’s Imaging Center. Endowed Funds of $75,000 or More The Deer Creek Fund This fund, which was established and is advised by Lynn Campion-Waddell, Tom Campion, Ashley Campion, and Berit Campion, provides ongoing support for the hospital’s priority needs; in particular, enhancements to emergency medical services. Endowed Funds of $25,000 or More Carl A. Gray Memorial Award Fund Established in 1991 by Harvey Gray, Carl Gray’s son, this fund honors the memory of an avid Sun Valley Ski Club member while also celebrating excellence in nursing care. On an annual basis, the award is given to a nurse who provides excellent patient care through his or her professional nursing practice.

Legacy Society Legacy Society members are individuals and couples who have generously planned for St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center in their wills or trusts or have made other forms of planned or deferred gifts. These types of gifts help us fund our unrestricted endowment—ensuring that we can continue to help our community in the future and helping us become less reliant on insurance reimbursements or the government.
